The breakfast buffet at Parador De was beautifully presented with a variety of options. The atmosphere in the 17th century monastery was truly impressive. Staying in such a historic building was a memorable experience. I highly recommend this hotel.

We really like this parador. It sits at the edge of the Riberia Sacra, a ring of Romanesque monasteries and churches near or perched over the Sil and Mino rivers. See a description of the possible tour below. The food in this parador was a cut above. Parador meals are faily expensive and often sound better in the description than they taste. Not here.We had both the spring and regional menus, and they were both excellent--a real chef seems to be at work.
There wasn't enough space for all this hotel's virtues, so we'll add them here. The region is now a wine-making center. The combination was just right for us--interesting wine, breathtaking churches, including the portal of the Ourense cathedral which is as impressive, in its way, as Compostella. The Parador staff gave us a route--a day of hair-raising driving and nice discoveries, with a lunch in a very remote Parador/monastery (San Estavan on the Sil) on the the way

The site is impressive and bedrooms of the usual high standard, but allowing for it's Grade 2 status we found this Parador a little gloomy, with the cloisters fully enclosed with glazing. It would have been nice if seating & refreshments were available outside in the summer. Well situated for touring the area.
On arrival our reservation could not be found. Not a good start when arriving at 2100 hours. Thankfully they had space and we had taken our full Booked.net reference with us. The adjoining chapel was undergoing repairs and the ground beyond the swimming pool area were unkempt.

The restaurant served delicious dinner dishes, and we enjoyed having modern amenities in our room while being close to Torre da Homenaxe.

The historic property was truly stunning. The views were breathtaking and the nearby church was simply beautiful. The meals were delicious and the maitre dee was superb in accommodating our preferences. We especially enjoyed the local wines and the coupon for a discount on our next stay was a nice surprise.
The beds definitely need an upgrade - pushing two singles together was not comfortable for a couple. Finally, some of the English speaking TV channels were dubbed or in Spanish which made it difficult for us to stay updated on the news.

Its elegance.
The bird that flew in and did not let me sleep :-).

Whilst the hotel was lovely and its position particularly impressive we were disappointed as we were not able to use the main facility attraction - the pool - as it was raining!
The dinner was very disappointing.

Stunning views and impressive architecture make for a memorable stay. The location, perched atop a hill, offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding countryside. The converted monastery manages to retain its grandeur while also providing a comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant serves excellent food and the service is cheerful and attentive.
The hotel could use some renovations and updates. The rooms are not as luxurious as expected, with some even showing signs of damp and unpleasant odors.
